Now you are the body of Christ and individually members of it.
Reader’s Digest published a series of articles on various parts of the human body. In these pieces, often called the “I Am Joe’s …” articles, various human organs wrote about themselves in the first person. Titles included, “I Am Joe’s Ear,” “I Am Joe’s
Hand,” “I Am Joe’s Eye,” “I Am Joe’s Spine,” “I Am Joe’s Liver,” and “I Am Joe’s Heart,” among many others.
In each story, Joe’s ear, heart, eye, or what have you, would talk about how the organ was constructed, how it functioned, and what could be done to promote the
care of the particular organ.
The Bible says that we, believers gathered in every local church, are the body of Christ. God has put together each church fellowship so that the right parts are
in place to fulfill God’s purpose for that congregation.
We belong to each other, we need each other, and – just as Joe’s body parts had to be healthy for Joe to be healthy – the individual members of a local church must
maintain their spiritual health if the church is to be healthy.
Praise the Lord that He loves you so much that He has made you part of His body. Now, look for ways to serve Him as a member of His body, the church.
Have a great day, and keep moving forward!
