Years ago in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, missionary David Bledsoe took me and a few other men to a certain place in the city. "I want you to experience this; it's pretty
cool,” he said.
We were driving up a hill when David turned off the minivan, put it into neutral and then let go of the brake. We began to coast — uphill!
At least it looked like we were coasting uphill. The horizon said, "You're going uphill."
It felt like we were coasting uphill. Our intuition said, "You're going uphill."
But logic said, "You can't coast uphill from a dead stop."
And gravity said, "You're not really going uphill. It looks like you're going uphill, but it's really downhill."
If we had just trusted our feelings or our emotions, we would have been absolutely wrong.
In the same way, one of the biggest mistakes we can make about our own security in Christ is to base the reality of our salvation on our feelings.
Instead, our security in Christ is based on real, historical, and supernatural events. John even wrote in the Bible to help ensure people that they might know they
have eternal life. We are found in Christ who is the truth and our salvation. Therefore, do not set up your emotions or feelings as idols, but rather trust in Christ as your eternal security.
Have a great day, and keep moving forward!
