The Price He Paid

For what does it profit a man to gain the whole world and forfeit his soul? For what can a man give in return for his soul?  Mark 8:36-37

In 2000, a 29 year old communications instructor auctioned his soul to the highest bidder.  After a  ten day bidding war a New York real estate developer paid $1325 for the young man’s soul.

The seller said he had put his soul up for auction to prove a point.  “In America,” he said, “you can sell your soul and be rewarded for it.  That’s what makes this country great.”

Many people sell their souls for much less than that.  What is your soul worth?  Jesus says your soul is the most precious thing you have, because it lasts forever.

When it came time to pay for your soul, Jesus Christ did not come to the bargaining table and try to pay the lowest price.  He willingly paid the absolute highest price.  He was beaten until he was unrecognizable.  A crown of thorns was driven onto his brow.  His back was whipped until it became a mass of bloody ribbons.  He took every painful step all the way to Calvary, though He could have stopped at any time.  Roman soldiers fastened Him to a cross through His hands and His feet.  He hung there for six hours, where He bled and suffered and died ... for you.

Jesus bore your hell.  He bore the punishment for your sin upon that cross, because that's the only price that would pay for your soul.  Nothing else will do.

Are your circumstances causing you to question whether God loves you?  You don’t need to wonder whether Jesus loves you.  The suffering and death of Jesus Christ upon the cross to pay the required price for your soul is a clear statement of God’s love for you.

Today, thank God that He showed His great love for you when His Son, Jesus Christ, paid the price for your soul on the cross of Calvary.  No other proof is necessary!

Have a great day, and keep moving forward!
