And he gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the shepherds and teachers,
to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ…
I like strong coffee. I like it strong enough to stand up and walk. I like it strong enough to defend itself against oncoming bullets. I like it strong enough
that the spoon stands up straight in the coffee when I’m done stirring.
There are two ingredients in strong coffee: water and coffee. There are two ingredients in weak coffee: water and coffee. Whether you’re
talking about strong coffee, or weak coffee, coffee has only two ingredients: water and coffee. The biggest difference between strong coffee and weak coffee is how long the water has been exposed to the grounds of coffee. The longer the water is exposed to
the coffee, the stronger the coffee will be. The less it’s exposed to the coffee,
the weaker it will be.
Here’s the difference between a weak believer and a strong believer: How much time is your heart and life being exposed to the Word of God? The more time you spend
in His Word, the stronger you’ll be, the stronger you’ll stand for Jesus, the stronger you’ll be able to serve Jesus. And so, God wants us to be mentored by Scriptural leaders who can teach the Word of God into us.
And praise God, though they lived 2,000 years ago, we can still be mentored by the apostles and the prophets every day, simply by opening up the Word of God, and
reading it. And then, we can be mentored by the systematic teaching of God’s Word by the teaching pastor. That is a vital thing for your spiritual life, to have someone opening the Word of God and taking you through the Word of God, line by line, paragraph
by paragraph, precept by precept. God wants to strengthen our service to Jesus as we engage with Scriptural mentors.
Have a great day, and keep moving forward!
