It happened over 30 years ago, but Doug Whitt and his wife Sylvia remember it like it was yesterday.
June 6, 1981 was their wedding day. After the wedding and the reception were over, they were escorted to their hotel's fancy bridal suite in the wee hours of the
In the suite they saw a sofa, chairs and table, but where was the bed? Nowhere to be found!
A few minutes worth of investigation revealed that the sofa was a hide-a-bed with a lumpy mattress and sagging springs. The newlyweds were severely disappointed,
but even more tired. So they spent their wedding night on that awful sofa bed.
The next morning, Doug went to the hotel desk and began to give the management a tongue-lashing. The clerk just looked at him and calmly asked, "Did you open the
door inside the room?"
Doug went back to the room. He opened the door they had thought was a closet. There, complete with fruit baskets and chocolates, was a beautiful bedroom!
To enjoy the honeymoon suite, they had to open all the doors.
In a similar way, we fail to open all of the doors available to us in the word of God. We miss out on the joy of knowing God fully because we are content with sleeping
on lumpy mattresses with saggy springs. There is so much more to God than we could ever imagine!
Have a great day, and keep moving forward!
