Is Jesus in Your Boat?

And a great windstorm arose, and the waves were breaking into the boat, so that the boat was already filling.  But He was in the stern, asleep on the cushion. And they woke Him and said to Him, “Teacher, do you not care that we are perishing?”   And He awoke and rebuked the wind and said to the sea, “Peace! Be still!” And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.   Mark 4:37-39

NBC sportscaster Charlie Jones was given the assignment of covering the rowing events in the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta, Georgia.  He knew almost nothing about these sports.  So, upon his arrival to the venue one week before the games began, he interviewed athlete after athlete, trying to learn as much as possible about Olympic rowing.

His questions were basic.  What do you do if it’s raining?  What do you do if you break an oar?  What if the wind blows you off course?  And the answer to all of these questions was the same from each athlete he interviewed.  Their answer?  “That’s outside my boat.”  These rowers were interested only in what they could control as they vied for Olympic medals: what was going on inside their boat.

Can you control storms in your life?  No, that’s outside your boat.  Can you control what someone else may try to do to you?  No, that’s outside your boat.  Can you control the economy or a disease or a sudden accident?  No, those are all outside your boat.

You cannot control things that happen outside your boat.  But you can control whether or not Jesus is in your boat.  If you have surrendered your life to Jesus Christ, then He is with you.  You will be alright in any storm, no matter what it is, because the presence of Jesus in your life overrides your storm, and He will not jump ship and leave you alone!  Nothing can separate you from His presence!

Have a great day, and keep moving forward!
