Guilt Management

I once carpooled with a guy who had purchased a used sedan. The car ran well and looked great. There was just one problem: a red warning light on the dashboard blinked constantly. Something under the hood needed repair.

For the first few weeks, I watched the light blink off and on. Then one morning it was no longer flashing.

"So," I said, pointing to the dashboard, "I see you got your car fixed."

He chuckled and said, "No, look a little closer."

Looking closely at the dashboard it turned out that he had stuck a tiny piece of black tape over the warning light.

Guilt is like that red warning light on the dashboard. When it starts flashing, you can either deal with the trouble or cover up the light.

I call that cover up: "Guilt management."

What’s the problem with this story? Just because the flashing light was covered up doesn’t mean the problem went away. Now think about your own situation: your guilt can’t be covered up before God; your guilt must be removed. Praise God that He sent His son to take away our guilt and shame! Through Christ’s blood on the cross, and the Holy Spirit’s application of that salvation to our account, we can stand before the Eternal Judge and be declared righteous in His eyes because of what our Savior has accomplished.

The red light is no longer flashing. God sees through the black tape, and finds that the problem has been resolved because of His son.

Have a great day, and keep moving forward!

Prayer Guide

Today as you pray …

Think about how God has removed your sin from you. You once were bound to sin; now you are bound to God (Romans 6:1-11).

Ask God to reveal the sins in your life that you are not aware of (Psalm 139:23-24).

Thank God the Father for sending God the Son to save you and for giving God the Spirit to you (Acts 2:38-39).

Thank Him for His righteousness and His wise judgment.

Give Him glory for hearing and delivering as you bring your needs to Him.
