…we are to grow up in every way into Him
who is the head, into Christ,
from whom the whole body, joined and held together by every joint with which it is equipped, when each part is working properly, makes the body grow so that
it builds itself up in love. Ephesians
As members of the body of Christ, we help one another to grow to become more and more like Jesus.
Notice something: As His body, the church, we grow up both
Christ and “from”
In verse 15
Word says that we grow “into”
Him. I think about the times when I was a young boy that my mother would buy me clothes that were two or three sizes too large. The shirt would have sleeves so long that I would have to roll up the cuffs. She would say,
grow into it.”
As we mature spiritually, we grow into Christ. The moment you were saved, you put on Jesus Christ
— His holiness, His righteousness, His life
— but He didn’t
fit you. He remains so much greater — in every way
— than we are. But day by day, as we mature spiritually, we grow into Christ.
In verse 16
— the text says that we grow
whom the whole body, joined and held together by every joint with which it is equipped, when each part is working properly, makes the body grow so that it builds itself up
Jesus works in the whole body to make it grow. He connects the joints and the different parts of the body, and holds everything together, so that we can help
one another grow.
A boy named Mike and his mother were in the doctor’s
office for his pre-school physical. The receptionist, completing his medical history, asked,
“What is your birthdate?”
“February 25,” Mike answered.
“What year?” the receptionist asked.
plan for us is that every year and every day, we would become more and more like Jesus. He has determined ahead of time that those who believe in Jesus would become like Jesus.
Have a great day, and keep moving forward!
