A Matter of Focus

Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. Resist him, firm in your faith, knowing that the same kinds of suffering are being experienced by your brotherhood throughout the world.

1 Peter 5:8-9

Years ago, my son Joshua and his Aunt Melissa went together to a restaurant where a magician entertained the guests with all kinds of tricks. He did one audience-participation trick, asking Joshua and Melissa to assist him. They did all he asked them to and made their way back to their seats.

When they were again seated, the magician approached them, held up two wristwatches and asked, "Are these yours?" They were! Somehow, he had managed to unbuckle their watches and take them from their wrists without ever being detected!

They couldn't believe it. But for Joshua and Melissa, it was all a matter of mis-placed focus.

You see, the magician used a technique called "misdirection" in order to get them to focus on the wrong thing so he could do his trick.

Satan, your adversary, is a master of misdirection. His mode of operation is to get you to focus on the wrong thing - not to play tricks on you, but to destroy you.

As born again child of God, you are to stand firm against his schemes. Don’t allow Satan’s temptations, discouragements, lies, and traps to defeat you today. Let Jesus answer the door when the devil comes knocking, and remember: “He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world” (1 John 4:4, ESV).

Have a Great Day and Keep Moving Forward!
