Fear Not

And her husband Joseph, being a just man and unwilling to put her to shame, resolved to divorce her quietly. But as he considered these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, “Joseph, son of David, do not fear to take Mary as your wife, for that which is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. She will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.” Matthew 1:19-21

A legend from India tells about a mouse who was terrified of cats until a magician agreed to transform him into a cat. That resolved his fear … until he met a dog; so the magician changed him into a dog. The mouse-turned-cat-turned-dog was content until he met a tiger, so once again the magician turned him into what he feared.

But when the tiger came complaining that he had met a hunter, the magician refused to help. "I will make you into a mouse again, for though you have the body of a tiger, you still have the heart of a mouse."

Sound familiar?  How many people do you know who have built a formidable exterior, only to tremble inside with fear?

In the gospel account of the birth of Jesus, angels appeared to four people:

·     To Zecharias — an old priest serving in the temple.

·     To Mary — the mother of Christ

·     To Joseph — Mary's husband-to-be

·     And to the shepherds who came to see Jesus in the manger

In all of these occasions, the angels began their message with two precious and powerful words: "Fear not."

Fear not. That's the message of Christmas. Jesus, God's Son has come into the world. There's no need to be afraid.

Think of the names that are given to Him. Every name of Jesus drives away fear.

·     He's the Wonderful Counselor. He can drive away the fear of your darkest problem.

·     He's the Mighty God. He can drive away the fear of your most insurmountable obstacle.

·     He's the Everlasting Father. He can drive away the fear of your past, present and future.

·     He's the Prince of Peace. He can drive away the fear of discord, strife and war.

·     He's Immanuel. God with us. There's no need to be afraid because a Savior has been born. His name is Jesus.

Have a great day, and keep moving forward!
