A woman was driving in a High Occupancy Vehicle lane on a highway in New York – a
lane reserved for cars with two or more people on board. Beside her in the passenger’s seat was a mannequin with a brunette wig, makeup, stylish clothing, and sunglasses.
A police officer saw what was going on and pulled the lady over. He request to see
the driver’s ID, and the mannequin’s as well!
The lady was not amused.
She protested to the officer, “I don’t see the problem with me driving around with
a dummy in my car, everyone else is doing it.”
What did the woman mean by her statement?
Was she saying that everybody else was driving with a mannequin in the car? That seems
Or, was she making an observation about the intelligence of her fellow drivers and
riders? Perhaps that’s what she had in mind.
Whatever that lady may have meant about driving with a dummy, there’s no question
that God’s Word warns us against traveling through life with foolish people.
Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers;
19:3 gives a similar warning:
When a man's folly brings his way to ruin, his heart rages against the
That verse is saying that our own foolish decisions turn our lives upside down, and then our hearts rage against the
Lord, as though our mess were His fault!
Today, be careful who you listen to, who you stand with, and who you take along with you for the ride. Listening to
the so-called wisdom of fools will take you down the wrong path every time.
