"Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise,
making the best use of the time, because the days are evil.
Therefore do not
be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is." Ephesians
Back in the early seventies, there was a movie called
The Poseidon Adventure. The basic premise of
The Poseidon Adventure is that this cruise ship is out at sea, and a huge tidal wave hits this ship, and when it hits it, it capsizes the ship, and turns everything upside down.
A lot of the people on the ship die, but those who survive have to do this: They have to get to the surface, and the only way they can get to the surface is to
act counter intuitively. They have to go deeper and deeper into the bowels of that ship, and make their way from what would normally be the upper decks down into the hull of that ship. They have to act counter intuitively if they’re ever going to make it
to the surface, because everything’s been turned upside down.
At first, the captain doesn’t understand. He tells people to take the exits, but the exits are taking people deeper, instead of up. And the whole premise both
of the movie is trying to make it to the surface, which is actually deeper and deeper into the ship, because everything’s been turned upside down.
Now, here’s what sin has done in our world: Sin has capsized our world, so that what seems like down is really up, what seems like right is really wrong, and what
seems like wisdom is really foolishness. And if you just do what you think is best – if you just make your decisions by listening to that little voice inside of your head, or by letting your conscience be your guide, or by allowing the best information to
direct your pathway, or by watching what other people around you are doing – you will miss God’s wisdom every time. Our hearts, and our minds, and our world have been calibrated toward foolishness by sin. And our only hope is to allow God to speak to us
His wisdom, so that we can begin to live a life that pleases Him.
The Bible tells us when we seek wisdom, God will give it to us. When we receive God’s wisdom it will protect
us and show us how to walk in the way that pleases God.
Have a great day and keep moving forward!
