“… be filled with the Spirit …”
Dentist visits are not high on my list of favorite activities. But imagine with me that at my next cleaning, the dentist says, "Stephen, you've got some plaque
buildup on your teeth. You need to brush your teeth." So, obediently, I go home, get out the toothbrush and toothpaste that I received from the dentist, and brush my teeth. Then I put away the toothbrush and toothpaste.
At my next appointment, six months later, the dentist examines my teeth and exclaims, "Your teeth are worse now than before! Did you remember to brush your teeth?"
"Yes, I brushed my teeth," I reply. He asks, "How often?" And I reply, "Once, right after my last checkup."
Of course the dentist did not mean for me to brush my teeth only one time, but every day and as often as needed! In the same way, God intends for us to be filled
with His Holy Spirit every day, and to ask for His filling as often as needed so we can live at all times for His glory.
God has taught me to ask for His filling every day, before I get out of bed by simply praying, "Dear God, I belong to You. Thank you for saving me through Jesus
Christ. I ask You, please, fill me with Your Spirit so I can live today for Your glory." Then throughout the day, I keep asking. For example, if I am frustrated, I pray, "Lord, fill me with your Spirit so I can be kind." When I have opportunity to minister
to someone, I pray, "Holy Spirit, fill me so I will be able to listen well to others and serve them the way You want me to." When I am discouraged, I pray, "Lord, fill me with Your Spirit, because I really need Your joy."
As often as you need it, go to God and ask Him to fill you with His Spirit. Thank Him that His Holy Spirit lives inside you, and
ask Him often and regularly to fill you with His Spirit! Being filled with the Holy Spirit is the key to living a victorious life in Christ!
Have a great day and keep moving forward!
