Appearing Harmless

"Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. Resist him, firm in your faith, knowing that the same kinds of suffering are being experienced by your brotherhood throughout the world." 1 Peter 5:8-9

An Ohio couple had spent a relaxing summer vacation in Florida with their 10-year old son. Just before they left for the airport to return home, a young girl staying at the same hotel showed up at their room and gave their son a teddy bear as a gift.

At the airport, the teddy bear was placed on the belt to be x-rayed along with the suitcases. Imagine everyone’s surprise when the x-ray of an innocent child’s toy revealed a loaded handgun stuffed inside. Appearances can certainly be misleading.

The Bible assures us there is an enemy who, like a hungry lion, is prowling about looking for opportunities to harm you and hurt your witness for Christ. At times he may seem harmless. You may even forget he is there. So don’t let down your guard! Stand firm and resist him, and remember: Jesus in you is greater than the enemy who seeks to harm you!

Have a great day, and keep moving forward!
